Atmospheric and Space Science

NESAC is participating in the following Atmospheric and Space Science activities:

  • Mineralogical mapping of selective areas on Moon using Chandrayaan-1 TMC, HySI and M3 data

  • Aerosol Black Carbon study in NER - An Aethalometer has been procured to measure the concentration of Aerosol Black Carbon in Atmosphere. Data collection is continuing at Umiam from July 2006 onwards. A plan has been initiated to study the characteristic of Aerosol Black Carbon at different part of NER considering different local and meteorological condition.

  • STROM project - NESAC is a participating agency in the STROM (Severe Thunderstorm-Observation and Regional Modeling) coordinated by Dept. of Science & Technology. Two pilot studies have been taken up on thunderstorm formation using Kalpana-1 satellite data.

  • ICARB project under ISRO-GBP

  • ARFI (Aerosol Radiative Forcing over India)

  • Atmospheric Boundary Layer Dynamics

  • Rainfall forecasting for Flood Early Warning System(FEWS) area
