Shri Rajiv K Bhatia, Director General, Indian Council of World Affair along with Shri P P Shrivastav, Former Member NEC visited NESAC on 25th November, 2014. Director, NESAC briefed them about the activities and achievements of the Centre. They visited major facilities of NESAC and interacted with Scientists. They expressed satisfaction with the diversity and quality of the work done at NESAC.
As part of the Communal Harmony Campaign Week from 19.11.2014 to 25.11.2014, communal harmony pledge was administered by Director, NESAC on 21.11.2014 followed by a programme on 24.11.2014 which was chaired by Director, NESAC, wherein employees had taken part in delivering a lecture on topics like (a) Secularism (b) Conservation of Environment etc. A group song was also presented by Junior Scientists and Junior Research Fellows.
Six days training program has been held by member of Art of living in NESAC from 25/11/14 to 30/11/14. The Art of Living is an educational and humanitarian movement engaged in stress-management and service initiatives.
Fifth semester B.Tech. (Electronics and Communication Engineering) students from, University of Technology and Management visited NESAC on 21-11-2014. They were familiarized with different facilities at NESAC with emphasis on Satellite Communication division. Scientists from Satellite Communication,IT,Atmospheric Science division explained them about the activities of respective division, working principle of different instruments. The students and the faculties were extremely happy with the familiarization visit.
350 students of classes VIII, IX and X from Christian Academy Higher Secondary School, Shillong visited NESAC on the November 13th, 2014. This was the highest number of students visiting NESAC in a single batch. As the number of students were too large, they were arranged to sit on temporary gallery outside NESAC building. They were familiarised with the satellite models & launch vehicle models and NESAC scientist explained them about the different activities of the Centre. This was followed by an interactive session where students & teachers asked a lot of question related to space science & general science which were explained by NESAC scientists
A one day seminar on " Space technology for forest management with special emphasis on forest working plan" to be held on 21.11.2014 at NESAC has been postponed until further notice due to some unavoidable circumstances. Inconvenience cause is regretted.
Central Vigilance Week was celebrated at NESAC during 27th October to 2nd November, 2014 with ‘Combating Corruption: Technology as an enabler’ as the theme. The week started with an oath taking ceremony on 27th October; in which Director, NESAC read out the message on combating corruption at workplace with staff of NESAC repeating after him. The week concluded with a colorful program at auditorium of NESAC in which Dr. Sukumar, Director, NERIE was invited as Guest of Honor who addressed the house on the roles and responsibilities of Central Vigilance Commission. Director, NESAC also briefed the gathering on the need for working ethically within the government sphere. This was followed by a quiz competition among the staff of NESAC and prizes were distributed based on performance.
North Eastern Regional Workshop for Sensitization & Awareness on National Medical College Network Project (Health Education Content Delivery, Skill Enhancement and Healthcare Outreach Services) was held at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on 26th & 27th September, 2014. It was organized by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India which is implementing a green field project on e-health including Telemedicine on National Medical College Network (NMCN) for interlinking the Medical Colleges across the country with the purpose of e-Education and National Rural Telemedicine Network for e-Healthcare delivery. Objectives of the workshop were to get the feedback from Medical Colleges on the existing Telemedicine infrastructure and activities share the telemedicine activities undertaken by various organizations among the delegates across the country and networking with the telemedicine practitioners. Director, NESAC attended the workshop and presented on the status and scope of North East Region Telemedicine Network and its experience in handling the project.
As part of the launching of “Swachh Bharat Mission” a pledge taking ceremony was held on 02.10.2014 at NESAC office, which was followed by a cleaning drive in the office premises.

NESAC has celebrated the 68th Independence Day of India at its office premises. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr. KK Sarma, Scientist, NESAC in presence of the office staff, their family members and other dignitaries. In this occasion, a beautiful march-past parade has also been demonstrated by CISF.
On the request of French Institute of Pondicherry, Director, NESAC briefly presented the activities of NESAC on 13th August, 2014 and also discussed with Dr. Pierre Grard, Director and Dr. Anupama, Sr. Scientist of the institute with regards in collaborative projects on Paleo climatic studies in NE region.
Decision support system for Early Warning of Japanese encephalitis (JE) in Assam

A workshop on "Decision support system for Early Warning of Japanese encephalitis (JE) in Assam" jointly organised by North Eastern Space Applications centre (NESAC), Umiam Meghalaya and Regional Medical Research Centre, NE region (RMRC, NER) Dibrugarh on 11th August 2014 at NEDFI Convention Centre, Guwahati, Assam. Vice Chancellor of Shrimanta Shankardeva University of Health Sciences, Assam, Prof. U.C. Sarma Presided over the meeting as Chief Guest and Principal Secretary, Health, Govt of Assam, Shri S. Kumar graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and all other participants. Dwelling upon the JE Early Warning model, Dr. S.A. Khan, Scientist, RMRC, NER mentioned that the JE early warning model predicts three vital parameters in the study area in a particular year with 70-80% accuracy: 1) Onset time of JE occurrence, 2) Intensity of JE cases and 3) Identification of the JE prone villages (with maps) categorizing them into high, medium and low risk for the said district 2-3 months in advance. Thus, it gives sufficient time to the health planners to take precise, area targeted, timely control measures well in advance. Dr. B.K. Handique, Scientist, NESAC, demonstrated the user friendly software developed for operation at the users’ level and highlighted the input parameters required for running the model. The workshop was concluded with the vote of thanks offered by Ms. Jonali Goswami, Scientist, NESAC.
Appraisal Meeting on NESAC Activities, Inauguration of Space Based Information Kiosk & Project Implementation Committee (PIC) Meeting of Space Based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) Project for the State of Tripura, 04 July, 2014
Dr S. Sudhakar, Director, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) presented the activities of the Centre in an appraisal meeting chaired by Shri S.K. Panda, Chief Secretary to the Government of Tripura on 04 July, 2014 at the conference hall of Tripura Secretariat. Principal Secretaries/Secretaries/Directors of all the line Departments of Tripura, Dr. B.M. Choudhary, Head (Applications), RRSC (East), Kolkata along with scientists from NESAC as well as Tripura Space Applications Centre attended the meeting and shared their views. Activities carried out by NESAC for developmental programmes were highly appreciated in the meeting. The Chief Secretary also inaugurated the Space Based Information KIOSK (SBIK) portal for the state of Tripura. The portal contains information on various geospatial thematic layers such as administrative details, infrastructure, natural resources, water resources, disaster management and exclusive data services for Agartala City. These thematic layers will serve as an input for an effective management of natural resources and also for various developmental planning purposes. The touch screen based system containing the SBIK portal has been installed in the office of the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Tripura. Project Implementation Committee (PIC) Meeting of Space Based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) Project for the State of Tripura was also held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary. Dr. B.M. Choudhary, Head (Applications), Regional Remote Sensing Centre (East), Kolkata. Director, NESAC, Regional Project Executive briefly explained the objective of SISDP and its implementation strategies for the state.
The Chief Secretary, Govt. of Manipur, Shri PC Lawmkunga has inaugurated the Space Based Information KIOSK (SBIK) portal for the state on 23rd June, 2014 at the Old Secretariat Conference Hall, Imphal. The SBIK programme is sponsored by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Govt. of India and executed by North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) in collaboration with Manipur State Remote Sensing Centre. Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC, has given a brief presentation on the effectiveness of SBIK Portal for the development and planning activities and a team of scientist namely Mr. P.S. Singh ,Mr. Victor , Ms. Kasturi ,Mr. Chandan demonstrated SBIK to all secratery of line dept. The portal contains information on various geospatial thematic layers such as administrative details, infrastructure, natural resources, water resources, disaster management and exclusive data services for Imphal City. These thematic layers will serve as an input for an effective management of natural resources and also for various developmental planning purposes. The touch screen based system containing the SBIK portal is installed in the office of the Chief Secretary. The Chief Secretary, Govt. of Manipur, also reviewed the activities of NESAC and appreciated the Centre for Its efforts for providing space technology inputs. Secretaries, Commissioners and Directors of various state departments have participated in the meeting and discussions.

23 students of 3rd year B.Sc. Forestry students of SAM Higgin Bottom Institute of Agricultural Technology & Sciences, Allahabad students visited NESAC on 6th June,2014. Scientist form RS-GIS, division, Nesac gave talks on various topics related to Remote sensing -GIS and GPS and interacted with the students.
Shri Ramesh Negi, Chief Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh has reviewed the activities of NESAC on 05th June, 2014 at his conference room. Principal Secretary, Secretaries and Commissioners of various state departments were also participated in the appraisal meeting. Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC also gave a brief presentation on the application of Space Based Information Kiosk (SBIK) portal for the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The main objective of SBIK is to showcase the strength of existing geospatial inputs of Arunachal Pradesh for natural resources management and other various development and planning activities in the state. The portal which contains different spatial modules and various GIS tools for easy navigation and data query was also released and launched by the Principal Secretary (Home) Arunachal Pradesh, Shri. D. Sharma. The touch screen based system containing the SBIK portal was installed in the office of the Chief Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Shri Tarun Gogoi inaugurates the Space Based Information KIOSK for the state of Assam
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Shri Tarun Gogoi inaugurates the Space Based Information KIOSK (SBIK) portal for the state of Assam on 30th May, 2014 in Assam Secretariat. Shri Jitesh Khosla, IAS, Chief Secretary, Assam, Shri V K Pipersenia, IAS, Addl Chief Secretary, Shri S C Das, IAS, Addl Chief Secretary, Dr. U N Bora, IAS, Secretary, Science and Technology Dept. and other senior officials of various Line Departments were also present in the inaugural programme. The SBIK programme is sponsored by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Govt. of India. A team of Scientists/ Engineers led by Dr S Sudhakar, Director, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Department of Space, Government of India, Shillong, demonstrated the various decision support tools, functionalities, utilities of SBIK Portal, developed exclusively for the state of Assam. The portal contains geospatial thematic layers of various information such as administrative details, infrastructure related information, land natural resources, water resources, ground water information, disaster management support information and also images of Indian satellite data. NESAC has installed a smart Touch-Screen system containing SBIK portal in the Office of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam. The same is proposed to be installed in each of the Line Departments for effective management and monitoring of developmental programme in the state of Assam.
A one day meeting of the coordinators of North East Tele-Education Network was held on 27th May, 2014, Tuesday, at Directors' Conference Hall, NESAC. Network coordinators, Hub in charge, technicians represented their respective state EDUSAT Network. The meeting was held to generally look into the running of the individual state networks and to specifically discuss the various issues relating individual state networks. Representatives from the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura and Mizoram were present along with representatives from various service providers. The meeting was chaired by Director, NESAC. The meeting spread across two sessions with lunch break in between.
Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and Dr. K K Sarma attended in the Celebration of international day for Biological Diversity (IDB) on 22nd May, 2014 in Shri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture & Societies Bivar Road, Shillong and participated in released of Forest cover map of Meghalaya prepared by NESAC, released by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya under a sponsored project by department of Forest and Environment, Meghalaya.
Dr S Sudhakar, Director, North Eastern Space Applications Centre has presented the activities of the Centre in an appraisal meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya on 20 May, 2014. Principal Secretaries/Secretaries/Directors of various Line Departments of Meghalaya have attended the meeting and shared their views. The Government of Meghalaya has been highly impressed by the activities carried out by NESAC for developmental programme of Meghalaya.
Fourth semester M. Sc. students with specialization in Atmospheric Physics from Dept. of Physics, Gauhati University visited NESAC on 2ndMay,2014. They were familiarized with different facilities at NESAC with emphasis on Space and Atmospheric Science laboratory. Scientists from Space and Atmospheric Science division explained them about the activities of this group, working principle of different instruments, and data collection methods. The students also witnessed launching of Pisharotysonde with hydrogen gas filled balloons. The students and the faculties were extremely happy with the familiarization visit.
The Space Based Information Kiosk (SBIK) portal for the state of Nagaland which was conceptualized and developed by NESAC in collaboration with Nagaland Science and Technology Council and Planning & Co-ordination Department, Nagaland to showcase the strength of existing geospatial inputs of Nagaland State for natural resources management and other various development and planning activities in the state has been released and launched by the State Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Ms. Banuo Z Jamir on 30th April, 2014. She also congratulated NESAC and the State GIS Centre for successful implementation of the portal. An appraisal meeting on NESAC activities, was also held at the conference hall of the Chief Secretary in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, Mr. HK Khulu along with the Secretaries of various state departments. Head of Department from different line departments have also attended the inaugural function. Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director NESAC gave a brief presentation on the application of SBIK Portal which contains geospatial thematic layers of information such as administrative details, infrastructure related information, land resources, water resources, disaster information and also satellite data, briefing on the spatial module on the portal and the various GIS tools for easy navigation and data query.
Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology, Azara, Guwahati in collaboration with ARSAC, Guwahati organized a one day Symposium on Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics for the Civil Engineering students of the college on 28th April,2014. Shri Abdul Qadir, Scientist NESAC delivered a talk on Microwave Remote Sensing and its Applications, highlighting various aspects in Civil Engineering, which are applicable to North Eastern Region.
NESAC took part in the ‘Earthquake Mega Mock Drill’ organized by National disaster Management Authority at Shillong on 10.03.2014, Monday. Scientists from NESAC demonstrated how to use the North Eastern District Resource Portal at the time for Disaster for planning recovery operation and the use of Satellite Telephone as a means of Emergency Communication.
National Science Day was celebrated in NESAC on 7th of March, 2014. On this context an invited lecture was organized on a new research topic “Application of Entropy theory in hydrological modeling” by Prof. Vijay P. Singh, Distinguished Caroline & William Chair Professor in Water Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA. The programme started with a brief welcome by Director, NESAC and an introduction of Prof. Singh by Mr. Diganta Barman, Scientist, NESAC. During the talk Prof. Singh threw light on various other application of Entropy theory apart from hydrological modeling. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks by Director, NESAC and presentation of memento to Prof. Singh

Director, NESAC delivered a talk on “ Using Geoinformatics for North East development” on 7th March, 2014 during the National conference on Emerging Global Trends in Engineering and Technology (EGTET 2014) at Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology, Azara, Guwahati.
On the occasion of National Science Day celebration, NESAC participated in Science fair on 28th and 1st of March,2014organized jointly by Cotton college University and Institute of Advanced Study in Cotton college campus in Guwahati. Scientists from NESAC interacted with students and displayed different satellite and launching vehicle models along with posters highlighting the activities of NESAC.
On the advice of Chairman, ISRO, a technical committee of ISRO under the Chairmanship of Dr. R.R Navalgund, Satish Dhawan Distinguished Professor at ISRO Head Quarter and senior Scientist of SAC and NRSC took a detailed review of the disaster wise activities and action plans as envisaged and documented by NESAC. Individual presentations were made by NESAC scientists associated with different disaster related activities along with detailed presentations on system infrastructure and communication infrastructure. Along with Director, NESAC and Project Manager, NER-DRR all scientists associated with NER-DRR participated in the discussion and expressed their views clearly to the review committee. At the end of the review cum discussion, the committee gave some important suggestions related to overall scope of activities of the upcoming NER-DRR as a state of the art facility for disaster risk reduction in north eastern region of India. The review meeting ended with a formal vote of thanks from Project Manager, NER-DRR and presentation of mementos to all the experts of the review committee by Director, NESAC.
The 7th meeting of NESAC Society was held at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi on Feb 21, 2014. The meeting was conducted by Chairman, ISRO and Vice President, NESAC Society on the request of Shri Paban Singh Ghatowar, Hon’ble Minister of State (independent charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Parliamentary Affairs and President, NESAC Society.
Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, NESAC GC and Vice President, NESAC Society extended a warm welcome to all the members of the Society, invitees and other representatives from North Eastern States, NEC and Department of Space. In his opening remarks, he appreciated the achievements of NESAC in various areas of space applications and catalyzing the development process of north eastern region.
Among the members, Shri J. Khosla, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam, S. B. Z. Jamir, IAS, Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Smt. K. Damayanthi, Jt. Secretary, DONER Shri P. J. Mathew, Joint Secretary, DOS, Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, Director, SAC, Prof. J. N. Goswami, Director PRL and Dr. J. R. Sharma, CGM, NRSC provided a number of suggestions on various activities of NESAC.
Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and Secretary of the Society presented the activities and achievements of NESAC along with budget estimates of RE 2013-14 and BE 2014-15. The Society approved the recommendations made during the 10th meeting of NESAC Governing Council without any modification.
NESAC picnic was organized on Saturday, 15.02.2014 at Kyrdemkhla, East Khasi Hills . It was a lively day out for the office group which marked a grand success with participation of most of the staff of NESAC . Various interactive games and other recreational measures were arranged.
Two NESAC scientists Mr. Diganta Barman and Dr. NG Romeji Singh participated in the Assam Water conference held at Assam Water Research and Management Institute in Guwahati. A technical paper on “Flood forecasting in Assam using meteorological and hydrological modeling” was presented in the first technical session of the conference that was held during 6th and 7th of February, 2014
NESAC participated in 18th National Space Science Symposium (NSSS - 2014) held at Dibrugarh University, during January 29-February 1, 2014. NESAC scientists gave oral and posters presentations on different topics under the theme “Geosphere and Biosphere Interaction”. Shree Shyam Sunder Kundu and Shree Arup Borgohain from NESAC, were awarded the second prize for the poster presentation titled “Orographically modulated mesoscale circulation and atmospheric boundary layer characteristic over Shillong” under the same theme.
A training programme on Application of Geo-Spatial Technology in Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) for the North Eastern states, held at NESAC during 27th Jan to 1st Feb, 2014. The proposed training programme aims to provide basic concepts of remote sensing, GIS, mobile applications in the watershed monitoring, hands on experience and analysis of database on Bhuvan services and extracting information required for monitoring of watershed activities, generation of Land and Water Resources Development Plan using GIS.
NESAC celebrated the 65th Republic Day with traditional zeal and patriotic fervor. The day started with the flag hoisting ceremony at the NESAC campus. Dr S Sudhakar Director NESAC hoisted the Indian national flag, followed by singing of the national anthem and March past by CISF personnel. The Director then addressed the gathering and greeted them.
Training for the Subject Matter Specialists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of NER Region on 24th Jan,14 at NESAC
A training was conducted at NESAC on 24-01-14 for the Subject Matter Specialists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of NER Region as per the request of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam. A total of 17 trainees attended the programme. The programme included lectures on natural resources of NER and climate change and its mitigation. The trainees were demonstrated NEDRP Portal and Space and Atmospheric Science instruments also
The Honorable member NEC, Shri A. K. Dutta visited NESAC on 8th Jan, 2014. Director, Dr. S. Sudhakar welcomed him to the institute. He visited the centre’s scientific and engineering facilities, viz., Central server facility, Atmospheric and space science lab, Satcom studio, Video conferencing room etc. and met the respective scientists/engineers as they explained to him the nature of work be ing done at each of these facilities.
Training Programm On Recent Trends And Usage Of Gps Technology For Basin Development Programme On 6th Jan, 2013
NESAC is part of Meghalaya Basin Development Programme. Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) agreed to give the responsibility of preparing thematic layers required for preparation of micro level action plane. In this regard, NESAC is in need of large number of ground truth in village level. Collection of ground truth up to village level will be conducted by MBDA personnel. To increase their skill in this regard NESAC conducted two days training on "Resent trends and usage of GPS technology for Basin development programme".

Director, NESAC along with Dr. Kuntala Bhusan and Shri M Somorjit Singh scientists of the Centre attended the Regional Workshop on Landslide Disaster Management organized by Geological Survey of India at NEC Auditorium, Shillong during 22nd – 23rd November, 2013. On this workshop he was given a presentation on Remote sensing and GIS Based Input for Landslide Hazard Risk, Vulnerability Assessment (HRVA) – a case study from Guwahati city.
The 10th meeting of the NESAC GC was held on November 11, 2013 at NEDFi Convention Centre, Guwahati. Shri S. Srinivasan, Additional Secretary, Department of Space presided over the meeting. Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and the Member Secretary, NESAC GC, welcomed the Additional Secretary, other members and invitees to the meeting. Sri S. Srinivasan, Additional Secretary, Department of Space in his opening remarks, appreciated the achievements of NESAC in various space applications in north eastern region. He suggested that NEC may play a greater role in coordinating the activities among the states. Shri J. Lhungdim, Planning Adviser, North Eastern Council appreciated the activities of NESAC and assured that NEC will provide required financial assistance to NESAC. Members of the GC representing various ISRO/DOS Centres, State Governments of 8 NE states, GSI, SOI, BSNL, IIT, Guwahati and NEHU offered their suggestion for future endeavours of NESAC. Director, NESAC/ Member secretary NESAC GC offered vote of thanks to the Chairman, members and the invitees.

North Eastern Space Applications Centre has completed a major national project on Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in sericulture Development funded by Central Silk Board (CSB). In this context Dr K Sambasiva rao, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Govt. of India released the electronic version of the project outputs on 09th October, 2013 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. In this occasion Hon’ble minister of state for Textiles Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi was also presented.

On recommendation by the Intelligence Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India the induction of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was held at NESAC on 3rd October, 2013 for Security of the Centre. Dr. S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC inaugurated the Induction Ceremony in NESAC premises in presence of Assistant Commandant, CISF NESAC Unit , all CISF Personnel and NESAC Scientists /staff.

NESAC Scientists participated in a Regional Training Course on "Forest Cover Change and Carbon Fluxes" at ICIMOD, Nepal during 23-27 Sept 2013
Dr.S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and Ms Kasturi Chakraborty,Scientist/Engineer‘SD’, NESAC recently participated in the Regional Training Course on "Forest Cover Change and Carbon Fluxes" held at ICIMOD,Nepal from 23-27 Sept 2013. As a resource person Dr. S Sudhakar presented a talk on “Temporal biomass assessment using remote sensing-examples from North East India”. The objective of the training course was to enhance the capacity of partners for forest carbon assessment for national GHG reporting and to provide a mutual learning and sharing platform and opportunities for ICIMOD regional member countries. The training has been provided by resource persons from ICIMOD with broad expertise on land cover change analysis, carbon flux studies and GHG reporting. Participants of the training program were mid-career and senior professionals from government and other agencies working on forestry and environmental studies from Bangladesh,Bhutan,India,Pakistan,China and Nepal.
The North Eastern Space Applications Centre has been taking up the Flood Early Warning Systems (FLEWS) to address hydrological flood disaster in 15 flood-prone districts of Assam. The project has been successfully implemented in close coordination with the respective departments/agencies of the Government of Assam (ASDMA, WRD, etc). The project forms a vital component of the North Eastern Region − Disaster Risk Reduction (NER−DRR) node. NESAC is in the process of initiating Flood Early Warning Systems for the other states in NER region in line with FLEWS−Assam, and proposed to be launched in the coming flood season as a pilot phase-I for the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
In this regard, a training programme has been organized under the prime initiative from Director, NESAC for a period of 3 days from 27 to 29 Nov, 2013 at NESAC, Umiam (Barapani), to impart basic curriculum on flood forecasting operations, flood warning dissemination system and end-use, hydrological database building for flood disaster, near real meteorological data base, Rainfall forecast etc. The training included knowledge−sharing with experienced officials from the Govt. of Assam in flood disaster preparedness and related issues. Official from other north eastern states viz. Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are also attended in the programme.
The Honorable Governor of Meghalaya, Shri K.K.Paul visited NESAC on 19th September,2013. Director, Dr. S. Sudhakar welcomed him to the institute in due procedure. He visited the centre’s scientific and engineering facilities, viz., Central server facility, Atmospheric and space science lab, Satcom studio, Video conferencing room etc. and met the respective scientists/engineers as they explained to him the nature of work being done at each of these facilities. He then met with all the Scientists/Engineers and JRFs of the centre in conference room where he expressed his delight over the activities being done at NESAC and encouraged the young group of Scientists/Engineers to carry on the good work.
A Hindi workshop was held at NESAC on 4th September, 2013 on “Salient Points of Official Language Implementation” at the auditorium at 11:00 am. The workshop was presided over by Dr. Sankar Kumar, Senior Hindi Officer, Department of Space, Branch secretariat, New Delhi . Director, NESAC, Dr. S. Sudhakar was present alongside all Scientists and JRFs at the workshop. Director, NESAC gave a brief inaugurators speech after which Dr. Sankar Kumar elaborated the audience on the various aspects of ‘Official Language Implementation Program’ as well as encouraged all the participants to use Hindi more and more in day to day office work. The program ended with Director, NESAC presenting Dr. Sankar Kumar with a memento.
A cultural program was held at NESAC on 4th September, 2013 for “Celebration of Communal Harmony Fortnight” at the auditorium at 04:00 pm. Director, NESAC, Dr. S. Sudhakar, Dr.Sankar Kumar, Senior Hindi Officer, Department of Space, Branch secretariat, New Delhi as well as all the Scientists and JRFs attended the program. Director, NESAC, Dr. S. Sudhakar inaugurated the program with his brief speech after which participants of the program displayed colourful performances. Prizes were given away by Director, NESAC for ‘Best Performance’ decided by a panel of judges made from the senior Scientists. All the performers were also presented with consolation prizes.
One day workshop on SILKS (Sericulture Information Linkages and Knowledge System) was organised at West Bengal Council of Science & Technology (WBCST), Bikash Bhavan, Kolkata on August 07, 2013 to create awareness about the SILKS portal among user departments in the state of West Bengal. SILKS portal has been developed under the Central Silk Board funded project on Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Sericulture Development Dr. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC & the Project Director welcomed all the participants and invitees to the workshop and gave a brief overview of the project.
Shri B. K. Mukherjee, Additional Director of Textiles (Sericulture) Govt. of West Bengal inaugurated workshop and the inaugural session was chaired by Dr. S. Nirmal Kumar, Director, Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute, Berhampore. Shri S.P.Mitra, Jt Secretary, Dept of Science & Technology, Govt of West Bengal addressed the participants and Chief Guest. Sri C.J. Prabhakar, CSB, Bangalore explained about the objectives of the workshop and sought active participation of the user departments and provide district specific information on sericulture activities for integrating into the portal. About 50 participants from State Sericulture departments, CSB regional centres and CSB research institutes have participated. Hands on training on the SILKS webportal was provided to participants and noted their feedback for further improvement of the portal in terms of making it more user oriented and user friendly.
Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC was the chief guest in the inaugural session of the National Seminar on Advances in Electronics and Allied Science and Technology, organized by Electronics Scientists and Engineers Society (ESES) held at Guwahati University, Guwahati during 1-3 August, 2013.
Director, NESAC delivered the keynote address in the inaugural session of the seminar and also delivered a lecture on “Application of Space Science and Technology for the Development of NE Region”. During his address and presentation, he mentioned about different space technologies and their applications and stressed on the importance of electronics science for holistic societal development. He urged the ESES to take lead to develop a small satellite with exclusive applications for NE region and offered help from NESAC in realizing the same.
The seminar was also attended by Shyam S Kundu, Sci/Engr- SE, NESAC. He made a presentation on “Contrasting change in pre-monsoon rainfall pattern over eastern and western region of Brahmaputra valley in Assam: Is aerosol responsible?”
North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Umiam organized a training programme on Recent Trends in Geospatial Technology during 05 – 09 August, 2013 at NESAC premises for capacity building of officials involved in the field. Resource persons from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, ISTRAC, Bangalore, NEHU, Shillong and NESAC have given talk on the recent topics like Hyperspectral Remote Sensing, Microwave Remote Sensing, WebGIS, Spatial Data Analysis technique, geostatistical analysis technique etc.
About 30 participants including 17 from the State Remote Sensing Applications Centres of NER, 4 from Line departments of Meghalaya state and 9 from NESAC, Umiam have attended the training programme. .
Director, NESAC delivered a lecture on Space Technology for the benefits of NE region, during the GOLDEN JUBLIEE CELEBRATION in Shillong College on 26th July, 2013. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Hon'ble former President of India and presently the Chancellor of Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Trivandrum visited NESAC on June 25, 2013. Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC appraised him about the activities of NESAC and accompanied him for a visit to the lab facilities in the centre. Dr Kalam interacted with Scientists/Engineers of the centre and delivered a lecture on "Space based solar power". He appreciated some of the on-going projects work such as on Flood Early Warning System, North Eastern District Resources Plan and North Eastern Regional Node for Disaster Risk Reduction initiatives, etc. and suggested that centre should respond to the needs of the north eastern region in providing timely inputs for disaster alerts, planning and in decision making process. Dr Kalam also interacted with about 50 selected school children from neighboring schools of NESAC and encouraged them through interaction. He inspired the students with a stirring poem, "I am born with potential, have wings and I will fly", focusing on the national mission and the strength of each individual.

National Workshop on "Holistic Scientific Approach using Integrated Geophysical Studies for the Management of Natural Hazards" 22-23rd Apr, 2013
2nd National Workshop on "Holistic Scientific Approach using Integrated Geophysical Studies for the Management of Natural Hazards" in collaboration with Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) which was held at NESAC campus in Umiam, Meghalaya during 22-23 April, 2013. The Workshop was inaugurated with the Welcome address by Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and Presidential Address by Dr V P Dimri, President IGU. Lightning of lamp. Inaugural speech was given by Chief Guest Shri P P Shrivastava, Hon'ble Member, NEC. Technical sessions were Chaired by Dr.V.P.Dimri President-IGU NGRI Hyerabad, Dr P R Reddy Advisor IGU, Prof Ajit Tyagi, Former Director General, India Meteorological Department and Prof J R Kayal Former DDG (Geophysics) GSI, CSIR Emeritus Scientist, Jadavpur University. Eminent Scientist, Professors and Research Scholars from across India participated enthusiastically. Senior Scientists and Academicians from various DOS/ISRO centers, NEIST-Jorhat, IIT-Guwahati, NGRI, Guwahati University etc. were invited to deliver the talk on various Natural Hazards and Disasters specially focusing on NE Region.
A Panel discussion & Concluding Session was conducted which was chaired by our Hon'ble Chief Guest Shri P P Shrivastava, Hon'ble Member, NEC along with Dr S Sudhakar, Dr.V.P.Dimri, Dr.P.Koteswara Rao and Dr. Ajit Tyagi .
A regional user meet for ISRO-NEC joint Telemedicine project was organized at North Eastern Space Applications Centre(NESAC) on 14th May, 2013 jointly by NESAC and DECU/ISRO to address various issues related to the Telemedicine project in NE region. Mr. P. P. Shrivastav , Hon’ble Member, NEC, was the ‘Chief Guest’ of the meet while Dr. A. G. Ahangar, Director, NEIGRIMHS, Shillong was the ‘Guest of Honor’. Representatives of users of the Telemedicine facility from all the NE states were invited to share their thoughts and expectations. A team from DECU/ISRO which is the central institution for this project was also present to address the issues the users are facing and also to inform about their future plans for running this project. Members from NEC were also present. Director, NESAC welcomed all to this ‘need of the hour’ user meet and an interactive discussion spanning over three sessions was conducted.
Director, NESAC and Dr. K KSarma, Scientist/Engineer – SF, NESAC attended the Zonal seminar on “Harnessing Relevant Technologies for NE Region” organized by The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, Guwahati Chapter (NE Region) which was held at Hotel Gateway Grandeur, Guwahati during May 11 0 12, 2013.
Director, NESAC have give the Key Note address during the inaugural session where Prof. GautamBarua, Director, IIT Guwahati was the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Director, NESAC has emphasized the usefulness of space technology in conjunction with Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems. He also urged the student community to study the emerging technology of current times.

Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya has reviewed the status of Space Based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) project of Meghalaya on 25th April, 2013 in his Office Chamber. Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC has presented the status of SIS-DP project. Principal Secretary, Secretary and Commissioners from the various Line Department were also present in the meeting.
Shri V V Bhat, Secretary to Govt. Of India and Member (Finance) Space/Atomic Energy/Earth Commissions visited NESAC on April 15, 2013. Director NESAC has given a presentation highlighting different activities in NESAC.
As part of Official Language Implementation in the Centre, Hindi Workshop is organized on 28.03.2013 from 11.00 am onwards at NESAC Auditorium. KumKalpanaKumari, Hindi Teacher, KV NEPA, Umsaw delivered a speech and conduct the workshop. The topic for the workshop is “Punctuality”. All employees actively participated in this workshop..
A meeting was held at NESAC, Shillong between Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and Mr. B. S. Chandrasekhar, Director, ISTRAC on 27th and 28th March, 2013 regarding ISRO’s IRNSS and DWR projects at NESAC and Cherapunjee respectively. Dignitaries from ISTRAC were also present in the meeting. Various points were discussed regarding operation of the IRNSS station at NESAC that were raised by both sides and consensus on these issues were reached at. .
NESAC has been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the project titled NRC-LULC 50K 2nd Cycle for NER states. Under this project to review the progress of the project a meeting was organized at NESAC, Umiam on 23rd March, 2013 at 9.30 hrs. The meeting was started by introducing the participants from different partner institutes. Welcome address was given by Director, NESAC followed by opening remarks by Dr. T Ravisankar, Group Head, LRUMG, NRSC, Hyderabad. All partner institutes have made presentation highlighting progress of the work in their respective states. After presentation depending on progress of each state, tentative dates were decided for external quality checking and discussed on various problems faced during interpretation. The meeting was ended by vote of thanks from M/S. Kausturi Chakravary.
A One Day NUIS Stakeholders Workshop at State Level for NE Region was organised by NESAC, NRSC and Ministry of Urban Development, New Delhi at NESAC conference room on the 22nd of March, 2013. There were altogether 33 participating organizations comprising the town planners, scientists and GIS specialists. Director NESAC chaired the workshop. The workshop was punctuated in two sessions.
The 6th meeting of NESAC Society was held at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, New Delhi on March 19, 2013. The meeting was chaired by Shri Paban Singh Ghatowar, Hon’ble Minister of State (independent charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Parliamentary Affairs and Chairman, North Eastern Council (NEC).
Dr. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC made a brief presentation on activities carried out by NESAC since the 5th meeting of the Society. He highlighted the major achievements of the centre with emphasis on NEDRP, SBIK, Sericulture development, FLEWS, other new initiatives of R &D activities and progress towards establishment of NER-DRR at NESAC.
Dr. K. Chairman ISRO and Vice President, NESAC Society appreciated the achievements of NESAC in various areas of space applications in north eastern region. He mentioned that the department has approved proposal for setting up of NER-DRR (North Eastern Regional node for Disaster Risk Reduction), which will significantly improve the disaster preparedness in the region and help administrations in critical decision making.

A workshop on Space Based Information Support for Decentralised Planning (SIS-DP) for the state of Mizoram was organised on 24th January, 2013 at Secretariat Conference Hall, Aizawl, Mizoram. The workshop was chaired by Chief Secretary of Mizoram Mrs. L. Tochhong and Dr. Vanlalzara, Chief Scientific Officer, Dte. of S&T, Govt. of Mizoram.
Dr. R. K. Lallianthanga, Project Director & Member Secretary, MIRSAC, gave a brief introductory remarks of the workshop . Director, NESAC gave a brief presentation on the overview ofSIS-DP project and resource persons from NRSC, Dr. S. Srinivas Rao, Scientist/ Engineer "SG" presented on the decision support and project management aspect, while Shri Prasun Kumar Gupta, Scientist/ Engineer "SD" from IIRS, Dehradun have presented on the aspects related to capacity building during the workshop . Mr. Lalnunsiama Colney, Senior Scientist from MIRSAC has also presented on land and water resource action plan of Aibawk block.
The line departments of the state ( Finance Dept., Education Dept., CE (RE), P & E Dept. , Dte. of S&T, Health Dept., Animal Husbandry & Vety. The 15th edition of India Geospatial Forum 2013 was held at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Hyderabad during 22-24 January, 2013. The conference was well attended by the experts from the government/industry/academia and highlighted the importance of Geospatial Enabled Economy in today’s world and laid emphasis on national development plans.

The 9th meeting of the NESAC GC was held on December 11, 2012 at Regional Remote Sensing Centre (East), Kolkata. Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Secretary, Department of Space/ Chairman ISRO presided over the meeting. Chairman has appreciated the achievements of NESAC in various space applications in north eastern region. He highlighted the achievements in the major projects at NESAC viz., Flood Early Warning System (FLEWS), North Eastern District Resources Plan (NEDRP), Space Based Information Kiosk (SBIK) and Sericulture Information Linkages and Knowledge System (SILKS). Chairman also appreciated the effort of NESAC in maintaining an excellent interphase with State Remote Sensing Applications Centres and Academic Institutions in the region.
Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and the Member Secretary, NESAC GC has made a detail presentation on the Activities/ Achievements of NESAC during 2011-2012. He has also presented the Action Taken Report from the 8th Meeting of the NESAC GC held on 26th July, 2011 at NESAC. This was followed by comments and suggestions from the members and invitees of the GC representing all the 8 states of NE states, Major ISRO/DOS Centres, Academia and Central Government Departments.
Audited annual accounts of NESAC for the year 2011-2012 has been adopted by the GC without any modification. Director, NESAC presented the audit observations and action taken during 2011-12. GC also approved the budget estimates of NESAC for the year 2012-2013.
The meeting ended with the concluding remarks from Chairman, ISRO followed by Vote of thanks from Director, NESAC.

A one day State Level workshop for all the line departments under SIS-DP programme for the state of Manipur was organized at Old Secretariat Conference Hall, Imphal on 18th Sep, 2012. This was jointly organized by MARSAC, NESAC & NRSC, Hyderabad. Shri L.P. Gonmei, IAS, Principal Secretary (S&T), Govt. of Manipur had chaired the workshop. The inaugural programme started with welcome address by Shri L. Uttamchand, Director, DST, Manipur followed by opening remarks and presentation on SIS-DP from Dr. S. Sudhakar, Director, NESAC. The programme ended with interaction and discussion along with the line departments followed by vote of thanks by Shri N.S. Singh, Director, MARSAC.
The workshop was attended by officials from different line departments.
A user meet of the North Eastern States ISRO EDUSAT networks was held at NESAC, Umiam on 22-23 August, 2012 in collaboration with DECU/ISRO, Ahmadabad. Stakeholders from the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura were presented the latest status & utilization scenario of their networks in the meeting along various problems faced by them. Various Suggestions were made by DECU & NESAC for smooth running and better utilization of all the networks.

A State level workshop on Space based information support for decentralized planning (sis-dp) for Assam was organized jointly by NESAC and ARSAC, Guwahati and NRSC, Hyderabad at NEDFI House, Dispur, Assam on 2nd August, 2012. The workshop was chaired by Mrs. Archana Verma, IAS, Commissioner & Secy., S & T, Dept, Govt. of Assam. A large number of participants from all line departments of Assam including Secretary, P&D department, Assam, Managing Director, AMTRON and others were attended the workshop. Dr. S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC and Sri H C Dutta, Director, ASTEC welcomed the dignitaries and representatives from various user departments, Government of Assam. A brief presentation was given on Scope and utilization of SIP-DP database and its use in watershed development programme by Director, NESAC followed by a presentation on plan of action from ARSAC side given by Sri Utpal Sarma, Head i/c ARSAC. There was another presentation on BHUVAN for local level planning given by Core team SIS-DP, NESC, Hyderabad. Meeting was ended with vote of thanks from the Director, NESAC.
Chief Secretary of Assam Sri Naba Kumar Das, IAS visited NESAC on July 21, 2012. Dr. S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC appraised him about all the activities of NESAC including FLEWS project in particular. He interacted with all the Scientist and employees of NESAC on various subjects.
Launching of Space Based Information KIOSK (SBIK)for NER
At Ministry of DoNER, New Delhi on 26th June, 2012
The Space Based Information KIOSK on North Eastern Region (NER) (SBIK-NER) is conceptualized by NESAC to showcase the strength of existing geospatial inputs of NER for natural resources management and other various developmental and planning activities in the region was launched by the Hon’ble Union Minister of state for DoNER and President, NESAC Society, Paban Singh Ghatowar on 26th June, in the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The main objective of SBIK-NER is to provide relevant information on each of the eight states of NER to the Hon’ble Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), Secretaries and officials as well as the visitors of the region in a touch screen based display panel through user friendly software environment developed by NESAC.
The SBIK-NER is also linked with NEDRP Geo-portal which aims to provide space technology inputs for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the benefit of district administrations as well as concerned Line departments.The final version of SBIK-NER will contain more information at district level for all NER states along with block level details and finer resolution satellite imageries. These inputs are expected to come from a project ‘Space Based Information Support for Decentralized Planning: SIS-DP’ coordinated by NESAC for all NER states.

Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Umroi Road, Barapani
Director, NESAC was invited as Chief Guest to the inaugural function of “Farmers’ Innovation and Technology Showcasing” organized by ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Barapani (Meghalaya) on March 05, 2012.Outstanding innovative farmers from across the North Eastern Region were honoured with a memento, certificate and cash prize to encourage them for new venture. Further, progressive farmers were provided high quality seeds of major crops and livestock breeds to improve the productivity. In his address, Director, NESAC emphasized on application of space technology for agricultural development in the North Eastern Region. He ensured sharing of geo-spatial databases available at NESAC with ICAR (RC)-NEH Region for benefit of the farming community of the region.

Free eye screening camp organised by NESAC on 24-01-2012
A free eye screening camp was organized by NESAC on 24th of January, 2012 from 9 AM to 6 PM at NESAC old campus as a Pre Republic day celebration in association with Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC), Shillong for the benefit of the employee of NESAC and local people of Barapani area. An inauguration cum awareness program was held on the occasions on the day. A free eye screening camp was organized by NESAC on 24th of January, 2012 from 9 AM to 6 PM at NESAC old campus as a Pre Republic day celebration in association with Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC), Shillong for the benefit of the employee of NESAC and local people of Barapani area. First Regional Workshop at NESAC under SIS-DP programme
As a part of Space Based Information Support for Decentralized Planning (SIS-DP) programme, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) has organized the 1st Regional Workshop on SIS-DP at NESAC during Sept 20-21, 2011 in collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad. The objective of this workshop was to familiarize the utilization of SIS-DP programme among the collaborative agencies as well as various line departments of this region.
In his welcome speech, Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC has highlighted the utilization of SIS-DP programme in the context of preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR), master plan document etc. through recently launched North Eastern District Resources Plan (NEDRP portal) programme executed by NESAC. Dr YVN Krishnamurthy, DD, RC & PD, SIS-DP, NRSC, Hyderabad has mentioned in the opening remarks, about the concept, objective & goal of SIS-DP programme.
Two days Regional Workshop was organized by NESAC on “GIS mapping, total station survey, mis development and integration of GIS with MIS” during September 6-7, 2011 at NESAC in collaboration with NRSC and Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, New Delhi). The workshop was on a subject that is of great importance as the developmental effort of the Government to uplift the living conditions in slum areas in NER. Hon’ble Minister of Housing, Municipal Administration, S& T and Urban Affairs Govt. Of Meghalaya, Smt. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh was present in the opening ceremony of the workshop as a Chief Guest.
Dr S Chaudhari Director S&T, North Eastern Council (NEC), senior Scientists from NRSC, Hyderabad and about 50 participants entire NER states have actively participated in that Workshop.

A meeting was held at NESAC with the Department of Fishery, Government of Meghalaya on 25th Oct, 2011 chaired by Shri KN Kumar, Commissioner & Secy., Community Rural Development and Fishery, Government of Meghalaya. The main objective of the meeting was to take up necessary measures for development of fishery in the state of Meghalaya which has tremendous prospect for pisciculture development. Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC has given a detail presentation on the activities of NESAC in the context of pisciculture development using space technology. Shri Kumar has expressed the need for identification of existing fish ponds as well as potential sites for fish ponds using satellite imageries under aqua-culture mission. Dr Sudhakar has also highlighted that available wetlands database prepared at 1:50,000 scale for the state of Meghalaya under National Wetland Inventory & Assessment project will be made available to Fishery Dept of Meghalaya in the form of Wetland Information System using Open source GIS software for effective planning and management. Around 30 senior officials from Government of Meghalaya have actively participated in the meeting and shared their views and suggestions.

A system installed with NEDRP portal along with a printer and
dedicated manpower has been deployed by NESAC in the Emergency Control
room in the office premises of Deputy Commissioner, Shillong.

Inauguration of initiation of setting up of North Eastern Disaster Risk Reduction Node (NER-DRR) on July, 2011 at NESAC
Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman ISRO/NESAC-GC & Secretary, Department of Space has inaugurated the initiation of setting up of NER-DRR at NESAC on July, 26, 2011. Shri P P Srivastav, Hon’ble Member, North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong and other senior officials from ISRO, NDRF, State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs), NEIST, GSI, CWC, Brahmaputra Board, Guwahati etc. were attending the function. The programme was started with a welcome address made by Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC. Shri P P Srivastav, Hon’ble Member, North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong has highlighted the success of Flood Early Warning System (FLEWS) programme initiated by NESAC in his speech and mentioned that success of FLEWS has led to the initiation of setting up of North Eastern Disaster Risk Reduction Node (NER-DRR) at NESAC. Dr. K. • Dr. P K Guha, Retired Geologist, GSI-Kolkata was invited to NESAC to review the draft manual of HRVA project prepared by NESAC on May 23, 2011.
• Director, NESAC and Mr. Diganta, scientist were invited for Inaugural function for training workshop on process of project appraisal and monitoring organized by Central Water Commission, Shillong on May 25, 2011.
• Director, NESAC and Mr. Bijoy scientist have attended the 8th meeting of NNRMS-Standing Committee on Agriculture and Soils (NNRMS-SCA) organized by Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture held in New Delhi on May 26, 2011.
• Scietists/Engineers of NESAC has interacted with the officials of Flood Management Improvement Support Centre (FMISC), Patna on the implantation of FLEWS programme. Director, NESAC has made detail presentation on FLEWS in the conference room of NESAC on June 3, 2011.
• Technical discussion was held in the implementation of SIS-DP programme in NER in the conference room of NESAC on June 7, 2011. A team lead by Dr SS Rao, NRSC were participating in the discussion.
• Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC along with FLEWS team of Scientist has made detailed presentation on FLEWS to the Chief Secretary of Assam in the Secretariat of Assam on June 24, 2011. Representatives from all the stack holders such as Water Resources Department, Brahmaputra Board, Central Water Commission etc. were also presented in the meeting.
• Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC has attended the meeting organized by NDMA in New Delhi on Aug 4, 2011 and submitted inputs on requirement of AWS, establishment of gauge station etc. in NER.
• Dr S Sudhakar, Director, NESAC was invited as a Chief Guest to the Fresher’s day celebration of Post Graduate College of Central Agriculture University, Umroi on Aug, 6, 2011. Dr Sudhakar also delivered briefly on ‘Role of Space Technology for mapping of soil and agriculture areas’.

Director, NESAC and Dr. K K Sarma attended and presented a paper on “Role of RS&GIS inputs for working plan maps in Meghalaya” in the Seminar on definition of Forest and conflict resolution in the context of Meghalaya 1st and 2nd Sept,2011.
