A custom-made one-week short course titled “Space Technology for Agriculture” was organized during February 19-23, 2024, at the NESAC Outreach Facility, Umiam. The course included seventeen participants comprising Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Scientists, Subject Matter Specialists and Research Scientists from various institutions affiliated with Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat.
The inaugural session on February 19th, 2024, commenced with a warm welcome and an overview of the course by Dr. B.K. Handique, Head, ASD and the Course Director. Dr. S.P. Aggarwal, Director of NESAC during his opening remarks emphasized the pivotal role of geospatial technologies in agriculture and related fields.
Throughout the course duration, a comprehensive curriculum consisting of 11 theory classes and 5 practical sessions was delivered. The topics covered ranged from remote sensing and GIS fundamentals to advanced techniques such as multispectral, microwave, hyperspectral, and UAV remote sensing.
Director, NESAC chaired the valedictory program held on February 23rd, 2024, where he distributed the certificates of course completion to all the participants. Dr. Pradesh Jena, Scientist -SD, ASD provided a summary of the course conducted followed by a vote of thanks offered by Dr. Francis Dutta, Scientist –SC, ASD.
