On August 6, 2024, the Mizoram Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MIRSAC) and NESAC jointly celebrated National Space Day at the conference Hall of Assembly House Annexe, Aizawl, Mizoram. The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Vanlalthlana, Hon’ble Minister i/c School Education, Govt. of Mizoram, as the Chief Guest. Over 100 students and teachers representing schools from different districts of Mizoram attended the program and eagerly participated in the Quiz Program and Exhibitions. First, second and third prizes in the Quiz competition were awarded to the two students from each of three winning schools among the 25 competing schools. Registration kit for the participants include NSpD/ISRO merchandises like caps, pens, note pads and ISRO Chandrayaan& Launch vehicle brochures were distributed to all.
Shri. Senthilkumar G, a Senior Scientist from UR Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), ISRO, delivered an insightful lecture on the “Indian Space Programme with special emphasis on the Moon Mission.” Er. H. Lalsawmliana, Chief Scientific officer, DST & Member Secretary, MIRSAC, presented a talk on “Space Application for Societal Benefit,” while Dr. Rekha B. Gogoi, Scientist at NESAC, provided an overview of the National Space Day celebrations led by NESAC across the north-eastern region. Shri Rosly Boy Lyngdoh, Sci/Eng ‘SD’, NESAC, discussed the origins and evolution of space technology in India. Dr.Pebam Rocky, Sci/Eng ‘SF, coordinated the event on behalf of NESAC.
The students’ interactions with the scientists were overwhelming, with questions ranging from the moon mission and cryogenic engines to human spaceflight missions. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Pi Hmingthanpuii, Principal Scientist of MIRSAC.
