A one-day Brainstorming Workshop on “Development of GeoTourism Dashboard Application for Planning, Management, and Monitoring Tourism Activity in the North Eastern Region (NER)” was successfully organized on 3rd March 2025 at the Outreach Building, NESAC. The workshop was a collaborative effort between the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), aimed at bringing together key stakeholders, user departments, and technical experts to deliberate on strengthening tourism planning and management through innovative geospatial solutions. The primary objective of the workshop was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the specific requirements, challenges, and expectations of the user departments related to tourism development in the NE region. The inaugural session commenced with a welcome and opening remarks by Dr. S.P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC, who emphasized the transformative potential of geospatial technologies in enhancing tourism experiences and management. Shri Angshuman Dey, IFS, Secretary, NEC, graced the event as the Chief Guest and joined the session via online mode, appreciating the joint efforts of NESAC and NEC in addressing this crucial sector through technology-driven interventions.
The first technical and interaction session was chaired by Dr. K.C. Nauriyal, Former Director, Archaeological Survey of India, & Cultural Expert to the Government of Assam, and was convened by Dr. Dibyajyoti Chutia, Project Investigator of the GeoTourism Project & Head of GID, NESAC. There were presentations on cutting-edge geospatial technologies for geo-tourism, including climate and comfort indexes, UAV-based 3D visualization, and AI-driven GeoTourism tools.
The valedictory session, chaired by Dr. S.P. Aggarwal and convened by Shri Tanung Jamoh, Director (S&T), NEC. The session focused on the stakeholder interactions, where tourism representatives from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and other stakeholders presented crucial feedback and suggestions to enhance the GeoTourism platform in line with regional needs. This workshop was an important step in using geospatial technology to support sustainable tourism development in NE region. The workshop was participated by 41 officials and stakeholders from different state tourism Directorates, Ministry of Tourism, State Remote Sensing Applications Centres(SRSACs) including NGOs of NE region. The event was coordinated by Shri P.S. Singh, Scientist-SF, GID, NESAC on behalf of Project team.
