The 33rdAMRUT 2.0 Capacity Building training course, titled “Formulation of GIS-Based Master Plan for Tier-III Officials,” was jointly organized by NESAC and the Town and Country Planning Organisation (TCPO) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) from July 13 to August 07, 2026. The four-weeks program brought together 12 nominated urban planning professionals—including Sub-Engineers, Surveyors, Town Planners, and Civil Draughtsmen—from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, and Sikkim. The training commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director of NESAC, alongside Dr. K. K. Sarma, Group Director, where Dr. Aggarwal urged the participants to adopt an observational, innovative, and problem-solving mindset to drive a fundamental paradigm shift in modern spatial planning.
The curriculum was carefully structured to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical execution through modules on Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) surveying, geodatabase development, and GIS-based master plan formulation. The course concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Director, NESAC, who highlighted the transformative power of emerging concepts like the Digital Twin in revolutionizing spatial planning. Drawing from his extensive domestic and international planning experiencehe encouraged the graduating officials to actively apply their newly acquired geospatial tools to modernize urban frameworks and advance sustainable development across their home states.
