Centre for Disaster Management and Research (CDMR), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati in collaboration with North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) and Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has conducted a two days symposium on Socio-technological aspects of seismic disaster during June 23-24, 2022 at IIT, Guwahati.
The symposium consists of a total of four plenary talks, thirteen invited speakers and eight parallel technical sessions followed by panel discussion. There were forty presentations during the technical sessions covering wide spectrum of topics on seismic disaster study such as seismic micro zonation, site characterization, liquefaction, retrofitting etc.
Dr. S. P. Aggrawal, Director, NESAC stressed on the importance of space technology and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) interventions in seismic studies in his inaugural speech. He highlighted the work carried out by NESAC in earthquake precursors, deformation and tectonics. During the panel discussion, he suggested to utilize space technology inputs in seismic disaster study.
