North Eastern Space Applications Centre and the Indian Meteorological Society (IMS)-Shillong Chapter, jointly celebrated the World Meteorological Day 2024. The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director of NESAC and Chairman of IMS, Shillong Chapter A popular talk on “At the Frontline of Climate Action: Issues and Challenges” was delivered by Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, Chairman of the Assam Pollution Control Board.. He highlighted the scientific and social aspects of climate change and stressed on the need of promoting behavioural change in the people to reduce the momentum of climate change. Dr S.S. Kundu Head, SASD and Secretary, IMS-Shillong Chapter coordinated event with Dr Arup Borgaohain, Scientist, SASD & Treasurer, IMS-Shillong Chapter.

A customised two weeks course for the Indo German Development Cooperation funded project “Climate Resilience of Forest Ecosystems, Biodiversity & Adaptive Capacities of Forest Dependent Communities in Tripura” (CFEFLAT) supported by the Tripura Forest Department was organised during 21st April 2025 to 02nd May 2025 by the Forestry & Ecology Division. Twelve officials participated as the first batch of the training programme. The training focussed on the introductory lectures on basics concepts of remote sensing, GIS, image interpretations, map projections and digital image processing with emphasis on hands-on exercises on different aspects of forest cover and land use mapping.
