The North Eastern Council (NEC) and NESAC jointly celebrated National Space Day 2024 on July 31, 2024 at the NEC Secretariat in Shillong. Over 150 students from five schools attended the event. Shri Som Kamei, Planning Advisor, NEC, highlighted India’s lunar exploration and ISRO’s progress. Chief Guest of the event Dr. SP Aggarwal, Director, NESAC , delivered a talk on the theme “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga,” focusing on Chandrayaan-3’s achievements and future missions, and encouraged students to learn more about space. Other speakers included Dr. KK Sarma, Dr. Dibyajyoti Chutia, Shri Victor Saikhom, and Dr. S. Sujan Singh, who discussed the societal benefits of the Indian Space Programme and the use of geospatial and UAV technology. A customised two weeks course for the Indo German Development Cooperation funded project “Climate Resilience of Forest Ecosystems, Biodiversity & Adaptive Capacities of Forest Dependent Communities in Tripura” (CFEFLAT) supported by the Tripura Forest Department was organised during 21st April 2025 to 02nd May 2025 by the Forestry & Ecology Division. Twelve officials participated as the first batch of the training programme. The training focussed on the introductory lectures on basics concepts of remote sensing, GIS, image interpretations, map projections and digital image processing with emphasis on hands-on exercises on different aspects of forest cover and land use mapping.
