National Space Day Celebration at Siliguri, West Bengal
National Space Day 2024 was celebrated at Siliguri Institute of Technology, Siliguri West Bengal on 26th July, 2024 to commemorate the outstanding feat of ISRO’s successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on the Moon on 23rd august, 2023. The event was organized jointly by Siliguri Institute of Technology (SIT), Siliguri & NESAC with support from RRSC-East and ISRO HQ. More than 200 students from 22 schools in and around Siliguri attended the program. Dr. Buddhadev Sau, Former VC, Jadavpur University, Kolkata was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural program. Shri Suparn Pathak, Deputy General Manager, RRSC-East, Kolkata and Dr. Tirtha Pratim Das, Director, Science Program Office, ISRO HQ also delivered welcome speech during the inaugural program. The program was also attended by officials from NESAC, RRSC-East, faculties of SIT and officials of Techno India Group.
The inaugural program was followed by two lectures the first one by Dr. Tirtha Pratim Das on ‘India’s Moon Mission: Excitement, Science & Possibilities’ and the second one by Shri Suparn Pathak on ‘Space Applications for Societal Benefits’. Both the lectures were received very well by the students and had good interactive sessions. The post-lunch session had a quiz contest, wherein selected students from all 22 schools participated. The students participated in the Quiz passionately and it resulted in a tough fight among the schools. This was followed by audio visual show on the ISRO’s Moon Missions and an interactive session with ISRO Scientists. The prizes were distributed to the winning schools during the valedictory session and all participating schools were given certificate of Participation. The daylong event ended with the vote of thanks proposed by the coordinator from SIT, Dr (Mrs) Banani Adhikari (Das).
approximately 600 students from the 22 invited schools as well as the Techno Model School visited the Space On Wheels Exhibition bus which created lots of curiosity among the young students. The students got an information rich mini tour to ISRO’s missions & activities during the exhibition.
