NESAC in collaboration with the Manipur Science and Technological Council (MASTEC) and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) organized the National Space Day celebrations at NIELIT, Akampat, Imphal. The event was graced by Th. Biswajit Singh, Minister for Science & Technology, Government of Manipur, as the Chief Guest, along with other distinguished guests including Shri Hungyo Worshang, Secretary of Science & Technology Shri Raghu Ningthoujam, Deputy Director, DTDI, ISRO Headquarters; Shri N. Debachandra, Director, NIELIT Imphal; and Dr. L. Minaketan, Director, MASTEC. The event saw participation from 220 students representing 54 schools across the state and faculties of NELIT and students and others.
In his inaugural speech, Minister Th. Biswajit Singh emphasized the significance of National Space Day in fostering a passion for science and space technology among Indian youth. The technical session featured two inspiring talks aimed at raising awareness and inspiring students about space science and its applications. Shri Raghu Ningthoujam delivered an engaging presentation on India’s space programs, with a special focus on lunar missions, detailing past, present, and future projects. Shri M. Somorjit Singh discussed the societal benefits of space applications, highlighting their impact on agriculture, water resources, geosciences, and disaster management, particularly in the northeastern region.
A quiz on space technology was also conducted and trophies and cash prizes were awarded to the top three schools. Exclusive interactive sessions between scientists and students were held, where students’ questions were answered by the attending scientists, fostering an engaging and educational experience for all participants. Shri Victor Saikhom, Scientist-SF of NESAC-ISRO, thanked everyone for their participation and lauded the efforts of each participant in making the event a grand success.
