Government of India has declared 23rd August as the “National Space Day” to commemorate the success of Chandrayaan-3’s landing on the southern polar region of the Moon. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been celebrating the 1st National Space Day in all the states of India. As part of the celebration, ISRO, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) and Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre (APSAC) jointly organised “National Space Day 2024” on 25th July 2024 at Dorjee Khandu State Convention Centre, Itanagar.
The programme was graced by Ms. Sumedha Yadav, Secretary (Science & Technology), Government of Arunachal Pradesh as the Chief Guest and was attended by around 180 students representing 16 schools of Itanagar Capital Region.
While delivering welcome address, Dr. H. Dutta, Director, APSAC highlighted the importance of celebrating National Space Day and also, on how younger generation would be inspired and educated in the field of Space Technology through such programme. Dr. Chandan Goswami, State Coordinator of Arunachal Pradesh from NESAC briefed about the genesis of the programme.
The Secretary (Science & Technology) appreciated the initiative taken by ISRO in conducting National Space Day every year and urged the students for their active participation and interaction with ISRO scientists.
Sri Bharat Kumar GVP, Head, Mission Simulation Group (MSG), UR Rao Satellite Centre URSC), ISRO, Bangalore delivered a popular Talk on “Indian Space Programme with special emphasis on Moon missions”. Besides, Dr. KK Sarma, Group Head, Remote Sensing Applications Group (RSAG), NESAC also delivered a Talk on “Space technology applications for societal benefits”.
A state-of-the-art Space Exhibition along with Audio Visual shows on ISRO’s Space Missions was also showcased during the programme. This was followed by a Quiz competition among the students of the schools. The winners of the Quiz completion were rewarded during the valedictory session.
