The concluding workshop for the project titled “Applications of Geospatial Technology for In-situ Conservation of Muga Silkworm in East Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya” was organized jointly by NESAC and the Directorate of Sericulture and Weaving, Government of Meghalaya, on January 23, 2025, at the Nokrek Building, Lower Lachumiere, Shillong.
The program commenced with a welcome address and an overview of the project by Dr. B.K. Handique, Head of the Agriculture and Soil Division (ASD), NESAC. This was followed by an address by Dr. K.K. Sarma, Group Head, Remote Sensing Applications Group (RSAG), NESAC. Smti. C.B. Sangma, Director, Sericulture and Weaving, Department of Textiles, Government of Meghalaya, delivered a formal address during the inaugural session.
The second session featured a detailed technical presentation of the project outcomes by Dr. B.K. Handique, culminating in the formal launch of the project report. The event concluded with a hands-on exercise on the use of Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data, conducted by Dr. Pradesh Jena and Dr. Francis Dutta, Scientists from NESAC providing the practical insights into the use of meteorological data for in-situ conservation efforts.
