Shri Keshab Mahanta, Hon’ble Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, Government of Assam, launched the SMART AXOM mobile application on 6th November, 2025 during the programme on “Building Collaborative Resilience for the Future” held in Guwahati. The SMART AXOM app has been developed by NESAC under a project sponsored by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Designed for citizen-centric disaster preparedness, the app provides location-based alerts, warnings, and advisories through a geo-fencing framework. It seamlessly integrates near-real-time information issued by agencies such as IMD, CWC, NESAC, ASDMA, and others.
The event commenced with an opening address by Smt. L. Sweety Changsan, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam and Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA. Dr. Dibyajyoti Chutia, Head, GID and Principal Investigator of the project, made the technical presentation, following which the Hon’ble Minister formally launched the SMART AXOM app.
The Hon’ble Minister also released the project report titled “Flood Scenario Generation and Discharge-Based Downstream Impact Study for Ranganadi, Doyang, and Kurichu Dams”, a study carried out by NESAC with funding support from ASDMA. Dr. Diganta Barman, Head, WRD and Principal Investigator of the project, made the technical presentation on the project during the event. On this occasion, Dr. Kasturi Chakraborty, Head, FED, was also felicitated by the Hon’ble Minister for her role as a Mentor under the AYIP 2025 programme of ASDMA. The event was attended by Smt. Meenakhi Das Nath, Additional Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA, Shri Alakananda Medhi, State Project Coordinator (SPC), ASDMA, Shri Abhijnan Rajkhowa, Communication Expert, ASDMA along with dignitaries from various organisations and agencies. From NESAC, Dr. Rekha B. Gogoi and Shri Nilay Nishant represented the SMART AXOM project team.
