NESAC organized the concluding workshop of the two regional level projects funded by North Eastern Council (NEC) viz., Applications of Space Technology for Agricultural Assessment in NER (ASAAN) and Space-Based Support for Integrated Development of Horticulture in NER (SSIDH) on 9th December 2025 at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati.
The inaugural program of the workshop started with the welcome address by Dr. B. K. Handique, Head, ASD, NESAC followed by a brief introduction to the PoA projects by Dr. K. K. Sarma, Group Head, RSAG, NESAC. This was followed by remarks from Dr. Bimal Bhattacharyya, Group Director, EPSA, SAC, Ahmedabad and Dr. S. Bandyopadhyay, Director, MNCFC, New Delhi. Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC highlighted importance of these projects in terms of providing crucial inputs towards ensuring food security in the NE region. Shri S. K. Bhalla, Secretary, NEC, applauded the projects and emphasized the critical role of geospatial technology in the development of the North Eastern Region. He also released the ASAAN and SSIDH project reports along with the dashboards. The inaugural Session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Chandan Goswami, Scientist -SF, ASD, NESAC.
Presentations highlighting the work carried out under the ASAAN and SSIDH projects were delivered by the Space Application Centres of the NER, followed by feedback and suggestions from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments of the region. A demonstration of the ASAAN and SSIDH dashboards was conducted by M/S Hexamap Ltd, and NESAC. The workshop also included presentations by NGEs working in agriculture and horticulture across the region, culminating in a concluding discussion on the future roadmap for advancing agricultural and horticultural development in the NER. Directors and scientists/officials from the State Remote Sensing Application Centres of the North Eastern Region, delegates from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments of the NE States, representatives from NGEs, and scientists and technical staff from NESAC attended the daylong workshop.
