NESAC organized a one-week training programme on “Applications of Geospatial Technology in Surveying, Monitoring and Programme Implementation” during 16–21 February 2026 for probationers of the 47th batch of the Indian Statistical Service (ISS). The programme was sponsored by the National Statistical Systems Training Academy (NSSTA), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The course commenced with an inaugural session on 16 February 2026, followed by technical sessions covering a wide spectrum of geospatial applications. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. K.K. Sarma, Group Head, RSAG, NESAC. Dr. Chandan Goswami, Scientist/Engineer-SF, Agriculture and Soil Division (ASD), NESAC, coordinated the programme and conducted the pre- and post-assessment evaluations.
The training included lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions on topics such as Indian space programmes for societal benefit, basics of remote sensing, GIS and GPS concepts, digital image processing, multi-criteria analysis, and Google Earth Engine-based image analysis. Invited lectures were delivered by experts including Dr. Bhavana Sahay (NRSC, Hyderabad) on digital agriculture applications and Dr. Sanjit Maitra (ISI, Tezpur) on environmental applications of geospatial technology. Additional modules covered applications in forest working plans, urban and regional planning, disaster management, smart governance, and satellite communication and navigation.
The programme concluded on 20 February 2026 with a valedictory session chaired by Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC during which certificates were distributed to the participants. The course summary was presented by Dr. Chandan Goswami, and the programme ended with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Francis Dutta, Course Officer.
