NESAC in collaboration with the Town and Country Planning Organisation (TCPO) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), successfully organised a two-week training programme on “Formulation of GIS-Based Master Plan for Tier-II Officials” under the Capacity Building component of the AMRUT-2.0. The programme was conducted during June 8 – 19, 2026, at the NESAC Outreach Facility, Umiam, Meghalaya. A total of 16 nominated planning officials from five states- Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, and Sikkim—participated in the programme.
The two-week programme commenced with an inaugural session graced by Dr. K. K. Sarma, Group Director, RSAG, NESAC, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Sarma highlighted the high expectations placed upon the participating officials by their respective state governments. He urged them to thoroughly explore the potential of geospatial technologies, encouraging a problem-solving approach rooted in observation, innovation, and practical sense. The training featured a robust curriculum delivered by domain experts across various NESAC divisions. Key focus areas included: Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) & Mobile Applications, Geodatabase Development, Practical Formulation of GIS-Based Master Plans and adavanced technologies such as Microwave and Lidar Remote Sensing. Participants gained valuable technical exposure through an effective blend of theoretical lectures and intensive hands-on activities.
The programme concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC. Addressing the officials, Dr. Aggarwal emphasized the transformative role of emerging concepts like the Digital Twin, highlighting how it is revolutionizing the current landscape of spatial planning. He encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to strengthen planning practices in their respective states.
