NESAC successfully conducted a two-week training on ‘Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Sericulture’ for Central Silk Board (CSB) scientists from June 24th to July 5th, 2024. A total of 28 Scientists from various CSB organizations from all over the country participated in the CSB sponsored training. The program featured lectures, practical sessions, and field visits.
The inaugural session on June 24thJuly, 2024 began with a welcome address by Dr. B.K. Handique, Head, ASD, followed by an overview of the course by Smt. Pratibha Thakuria Das, Scientist/Engineer-SF and the Course Director of the training. Dr. S.P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC, addressed the participants, emphasizing the significance of geospatial technologies in sericulture. Dr. P.P. Nageswara Rao, former Director of NESAC, graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest.
The course included 13 theory classes and 14 practical sessions, covering topics from basic to advanced levels covering multispectral, microwave, hyperspectral and UAV Remote Sensing. Guest lecturers Dr. P.P. Nageswara Rao, Former Director, NESAC and Dr. Siddique Ali Ahmed, Nodal Officer, SAMARTH, CBT-CSB delivered talks on “Basics of Remote Sensing” and “Way Forward for Development of Sericulture under Silk Samagra II,” respectively.
On June 29th, participants went on a field visit to Sohra. They were also assigned six Mini projects related to sericulture, which they completed within the course duration.
The valedictory program was held on July 5th, 2024 with Brig. Rajiv Kumar Singh (Retd.), Managing Director of North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC), as the Chief Guest. Course completion certificates were distributed during this session. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Francis Dutta, Scientist/Engineer-SD and the Course Officer.
